NHLRA Program Overview

NHLRA members benefit from our discounted pricing and our extensive energy expertise. We have adapted products and services originally created for large industrial and manufacturing customers to meet the needs of your business. We provide the information and support you require to better manage your energy costs in a constantly changing market environment.

Sprague's Programs allow  you to:

How to Enroll

1. 1. Let us know if you have interest by requesting a Natural Gas Quote online and/or requesting a Electricity Quote online , giving us a call at 1.855.GO.NATGAS (1.855.466.2842), or emailing us at nhlra@spragueenergy.com.

2. Sprague will require basic account information from your utility bill(s). We will then contact your utility to obtain your historical usage and rate information. This is easy for us to do and your utility readily provides this information. If you're emailing us, you can include a copy of your most recent bill and a letter of authorization (LOA for Natural GasLOA for Electricity) to help expedite the process.

3. Once you are approved, we provide you our pricing choices, and you choose your gas and/or power program. Sprague will then send you its EZ purchase agreement that will enable you to lock-in your energy costs for the contract period.

Who is Sprague?

Sprague has been providing its retail, commercial, industrial, utility and wholesale customers with natural gas since 1994. It sells more than 65 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually to over 16,000 accounts located behind 46 utilities in 12 states and Washington, D.C. 

Founded in 1870 as a distributor of coal and oil, today Sprague is one of the largest independent suppliers of energy products and related services in the Northeast. Sprague can respond to rapidly changing customer needs thanks to its market and trading capabilities plus its network of owned and/or controlled terminals coupled with an extensive network of throughput arrangements at other facilities. 

Sprague headquarters are in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. 


What energy products does Sprague offer?

Multiple. Sprague offers a wide range of energy products and services; we can provide you a full range of energy options, including natural gas, power, propane, heating oil and power needs for your business, while at the same time keeping an eye on the bottom line.

Can I buy my natural gas and power from someone other than my utility?

Yes. Competitive natural gas suppliers, known as Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), can provide for your natural gas and/or power requirements. These ESCOs will deliver your natural gas and/or power requirements to the utility and then the utility will deliver the actual gas and/or power to you.

The ESCO, or Sprague in this case, will bill you for the natural gas and/or power supplied and any transportation charges needed to deliver the gas and/or power to the utility.  The utility will bill you only for the local distribution charges to your facilities, and any other charges according to their tariff. You will receive two bills, one from the utility for their distribution service and one from Sprague for your supply.

Will the service I receive from the utility change if I buy gas and/or power from Sprague?

No. You will receive the same quality service from your utility regardless of the company that provides your natural gas and/or power requirements.

Will I save money buying gas and/or power from Sprague?

Most Likely. The savings you receive will depend upon the utility's approved rate (which changes), your contract price, and when you purchase your gas and/or power supply from Sprague. However, with Sprague, you have options! You have the option to either lock-in your natural gas and/or power costs right now, or float with the market until the price is right for you and then lock-in at a later date, if you so choose. If you continue to purchase your natural gas and/or power from your utility, you may not have the ability to lock-in prices and avoid the market swings.

How do I start buying my own natural gas and/or power?

To begin the process of buying your own natural gas and/or power, simply fill out this form.  If you have any questions about the details of your utility's choice program, call them directly at the customer service phone number located on your natural gas and/or power bill(s).

What natural gas and/or power services does Sprague provide?

Many. As a natural gas and/or power customer, Sprague will be your energy Supplier, though your utility will continue to provide gas to your business. We are responsible for delivering your actual gas and/or power to your utility - sourcing it from different geographies across the United States. Sprague also has the ability to create customized products for you, delivering an energy solution that best meets your demand requirements and appetite for risk. If you ever have emergencies or delivery issues with your actual gas and/or power supply, then you would contact your utility for support.

Can I easily get a copy of my contract Terms and Conditions?

Yes. Sprague sends out the Terms and Conditions to every new customer. Additionally, we keep a record of your Terms and Conditions on file. You can call or email us anytime and we will send you a copy whenever you would like.
