August NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Settled at $4.044 on Wednesday, July 28th

Wednesday, July 28th – settlement day for the August contract – saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $3.997, two cents above Tuesday’s closing price of $3.971.  Falling to an intraday low of $3.970 at 9:40AM, the contract posted a steady recovery over the balance of the session.  August settled higher at $4.044.  The more actively traded September contract opened at $3.965, two cents above Tuesday’s closing price of $3.942.  Falling to an intraday low of $3.934 at 9:40AM, the contract posted similar path as its predecessor to reach and intraday high of $4.024.  September closed higher on Wednesday at $3.967.

The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report is due out on Thursday at 10:30AM. The report is expected to show a 47 BCF injection to storage for the week ended July 23rd.  This compares to a 26 BCF injection at this time last year and a five-year average injection amount of 28 BCF.

As of 6:30AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was up 27 cents; Natural Gas was down one cent; Heating Oil was up slightly; and Gasoline was up one cent
