February NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $2.737 on Friday, January 15th

Friday, January 15th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $2.774, a penny above Thursday’s closing price of $2.666.  Ascending to an intraday high of $2.800 by 9:20AM, the contract then withdrew to stabilize near the $2.720 level at 11:15AM.  Trading along this mark for the balance of the session, February closed higher on Friday at $2.737.

The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday showed a 134 BCF withdrawal from storage for the week ended January 8th – in line with market estimate expectations. Total working gas in storage was reported as 3,196 BCF; 4.1% above this time last year and 7.3% above the five-year average.

As of 7:15AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was down 17 cents; Natural Gas was down 15 cents; Heating Oil was down one cent; and Gasoline was down one cent.
