October NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $4.976 on Thursday, September 23rd

Thursday, September 23rd saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $4.871, five cents above Tuesday’s closing price of $4.805. Falling to an intraday low of $4.848 by 9:20AM, the contract rose to the $4.910 level ahead of the weekly storage publication. Following a brief decline, prices ascended in the subsequent two hours to reach an intraday high of $5.009 at 12:30PM. October closed higher on Thursday at $4.976.
 
The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday showed a 76 BCF injection to storage for the week ended September 17–below the market estimate of 82 BCF. Total working gas in storage was reported as 3,082 BCF; 16.0% below this time last year and 6.9% below the five-year average.
 
As of 8:05AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was 27 cents; Natural Gas was up twelve cents; Heating Oil was down one cent; and Gasoline was down one cent.
