September NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $4.140 on Thursday, August 5th

Thursday, August 5th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $4.187, three cents above Wednesday’s closing price of $4.158.  Trading along $4.180 heading into the weekly storage report, prices jumped to a new multi-year intraday high of $4.205 as the publication hit the wire.  Posting a staggered descent to reach an intraday low of $4.134 ahead of 2:30PM, September closed lower on Thursday at $4.140.

The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday showed a 13 BCF injection to storage for the week ended July 30th – below the market estimate of 27 BCF.  Total working gas in storage was reported as 2,727 BCF; 16.6% below this time last year and 6.4% below the five-year average.

As of 7:55AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was up 73 cents; Natural Gas was unchanged; Heating Oil was up one cent; and Gasoline was up two cents.
