September NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $3.933 on Thursday, August 12th

Thursday, August 12th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $4.006, five cents below Wednesday’s closing price of $4.059.  Ascending to an intraday high of $4.037 at 10:00AM, prices fell to $4.020 ahead of the weekly storage publication and continued lower after its release.  Crossing midday near $3.929 and marking an intraday low of $3.917 at 1:00PM, September closed lower on Thursday at $3.933.

The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday showed a 49 BCF injection to storage for the week ended August 6th – in line with the market estimate of 48 BCF.  Total working gas in storage was reported as 2,776 BCF; 16.5% below this time last year and 6.0% below the five-year average.

As of 6:50AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was down five cents; Natural Gas was down two cents; Heating Oil was up slightly; and Gasoline was down one cent.
