Sprague announces organizations awarded funding from corporate giving program

Sprague Operating Resources LLC, “Sprague,” headquartered in Portsmouth, NH, is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2020 and in celebration awarded $150,000 to nonprofit organizations within its footprint.
After an extensive review by Sprague’s Charitable Giving Committee, and a record number of applicants, Sprague has chosen the following organizations to receive funding from its corporate giving program.
  • Abbott House (Irvington, NY), which provides services for abused, neglected, and abandoned children & adults with disabilities, will receive funding to support  their Development Department to continue recreational and educational opportunities for children.
  • Abilis (Stamford, CT), who advocates and supports people with developmental disabilities and their families, will receive funding for their Early Intervention Birth to Three Program.
  • Blue Ocean Society (Portsmouth, NH), whose mission is to protect marine life in the Gulf of Maine through research, education and inspiring action, will receive funding to support their beach cleanup efforts and education programs.
  • CASA of NH (Manchester, NH), who provides well-trained volunteers to help abused or neglected children to make sure their best interests are heard in court, will receive funding to help recruit, screen, train and supervise new volunteers.
  • Center for Wildlife (Cape Neddick, ME), who works to cultivate and strengthen relationships between humans, wildlife and the environment, will receive funding for their Investing in Wildlife campaign.
  • Children’s Museum of NH (Dover, NH) is dedicated to celebrating children’s and families creativity, learning and collaboration, and Sprague will help their mission by being a sponsor for their New Hampshire Maker & Food Fest.
  • Community Toolbox (Portsmouth, NH), who works to bring volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of homeowners in need, will receive funding for “Fix-It” job materials.
  • Cross Roads House (Portsmouth, NH), who provides shelter and support for people experiencing homelessness, will receive funding to support their Family Case Management services.
  • East Harlem Neighborhood Based Alliance Corporation (New York, NY), who works to stabilize and preserve families through the delivery of crisis intervention services, will receive funding in support of its Violence Prevention Project.
  • Emerald Necklace Conservancy (Boston, MA), who conserves and improves the Emerald Necklace through projects and programs in Boston’s Back Bay, will receive funding to support its mission and programs.
  • The Freedom Café (Durham, NH), who works to end human trafficking and the commercial exploitation of all people through its non-profit specialty café, will receive funding to support its mission and fundraising events.
  • Friends of Casco Bay (South Portland, ME), who improves and protects the environmental health of Casco Bay, will receive funding to expand and support their Water Reporter Project.
  • Full Plates, Full Potential (Portland, ME) works to end child hunger in Maine and will receive funding to support their summer meals work.
  • Great Bay Services (Dover, NH), who offers support to people with developmental & Intellectual disabilities and autism, will receive funding to support their new remote programming, established due to the COVID19 pandemic.
  • Great Bay Stewards (Greenland, NH), who is dedicated to the long-term protection and conservation of the Great Bay ecosystem, will receive funding in support of their annual Great Bay 5K road race
  • Gundalow Company (Portsmouth, NH), who works to protect the maritime heritage and environment of the Piscataqua region through education and action, will receive funding for its educational programming.
  • H.U.S.H. (Searsport, ME), who works to eliminate food security for students over weekends, will receive funding to support its program.
  • HAVEN (Portsmouth, NH) works to prevent sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking and supports and empowers women, men, youth and families to heal from abuse and will receive funding that supports their Safe Kids, Strong Teens program.
  • Junior Achievement of Maine (Portland, ME), who educates students about work readiness, financial literacy and entrepreneurship, will receive funding to help with their new virtual learning program
  • Lifting Up Westchester (White Plains, NY), whose mission is to restore hope to people in Westchester County in need by providing them with food shelter and support, will receive funding for their Brighter Futures Summer Day Camp for the homeless/economically disadvantaged youth.
  • My Breast Cancer Support (Portsmouth, NH) provides financial and emotional support to breast cancer patients and their families and will receive funding to support their Patient Enrichment Programs.
  • Newington Police Association (Newington, NH), whose mission is to safeguard the lives and property of citizens in Newington, NH, will receive funding for their Explosive Detection Canine program.
  • On Belay (Newmarket, NH), which builds community among youth who have or have had a family member with cancer using adventure based activities, will receive funding to support their programs.
  • Oneonta Family YMCA (Oneonta, NY), who is committed to strengthening their community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, will receive funding to support their programming and fundraising events.
  • Red’s Good Vibes (Portsmouth, NH) is a mobile giving organization that looks to provide support and relief to local communities. They will receive funding to support their current mission of providing groceries to families affected by COVID-19.
  • Robert J. Lister Academy’s Maple Syrup Makers (Portsmouth, NH), who works to include more real-world connections into their academic curriculum, will receive funding to support their maple syrup program.
  • Royal Family Kids (Auburn, NH) offers free summer camp experiences for abused, abandoned and neglected children and will receive funding to support their fundraising efforts.
  • Seacoast Science Center (Rye, NH), whose mission is to spark curiosity, enhance understanding and inspire conservation, will receive funding to help sponsor their interactive Tide Pool Touch Tank.
  • St. Gianna’s Place (Londonderry, NH) works to help homeless, pregnant women to achieve happy, productive and independent lives and will receive funding to help renovate their home to allow for more bedrooms.
  • Step Up Parents (Portsmouth, NH) offers financial assistance to grandparents and other relative caregivers who have stepped up to raise the children of parents struggling from substance use disorder. They will receive funding to support their general programming needs.
  • Teatown Lake Reservation Camp (Ossining, NY) is a 1000-acre nature preserve and education center that looks to inspire their community to lifelong environmental stewardship. They will receive funding to support their Natural Science Summer Day camp.
  • Warriors on Wheels (Albany, NY) works to serve people with disabilities enduring financial hardship and will receive funding to help them purchase a RS1 Life Cycle Life Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike.
  • Wentworth-Douglass Hospital & Health Foundation – Women & Children’s Center (Dover, NH) works to provide comprehensive care specially designed for infants, children and growing families and will receive funding to help support their general services.
  • WHEDco (Bronx, NY) works to build sustainable, affordable homes in communities that residents can be proud of and will receive funding to support their STEM program and parent engagement work.
  • WinterKids (Westbrook, ME) helps children develop healthy lifelong habits through education and fun outdoor winter activity and will receive funding to support their programming.
  • Womenaid of Greater Portsmouth (Portsmouth, NH) provides short-term financial assistance to neighbors in need and will receive funding to help support their financial requests.
