September NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract Closed at $2.182 on Thursday, August 13th

Thursday, August 13th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contract open at $2.161, a penny above Wednesday’s closing price of $2.152.  Seeking direction through the day’s opening ninety minutes, prices traded between $2.144 and $2.189 ahead of 10:30AM.  Jumping to an intraday high of $2.197 as the weekly publication was released, the contract then fell to an intraday low of $2.141 at 11:20AM.  Mounting a modest ascent into the afternoon, September closed higher on Thursday at $2.182.

The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday showed a 58 BCF injection to storage for the week ended August 7th – above the market estimate of 51. Total working gas in storage was reported as 3,332 BCF: 22.3% above this time last year and 15.3% above the five-year average.

As of 8:00AM EST this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was unchanged; Natural Gas was up one cent; Heating Oil was up slightly; and Gasoline was up one cent.
