Monday, January 8th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas Futures Contracts open at $2.828, three cents above Friday’s closing price of $2.795. The intraday high peaked at $2.851 by 9:10 AM. The contract then traded within a three-cent band before sinking to the $2.78 mark at 12:40PM. Balancing expectations of a record draw from storage for last week with a forecast of mild temperatures, February closed higher on Monday at $2.835.
This morning in Globex, WTI Crude was up 22 cents; Natural Gas was up five cents; Heating Oil was up slightly; and, Gasoline was up one cent.
New York and New England basis values were both lower for the current winter months and higher for the next summer season. Additionally, cash prices were lower in New York and in New England.
