Thursday, May 8th saw the front-month NYMEX Natural Gas contract open at $3.683, $0.062 cents above Wednesday’s closing price of $3.621. Recording the intraday high of $3.692 within minutes of the open, prices traded sideways near $3.650 leading up to the weekly storage report. Pulling back as the publication hit the wire, the contract fell to an intraday low of $3.531 shortly after midday. June closed lower on Thursday at $3.592.
The EIA Natural Gas Storage Report published on Thursday posted a 104 BCF injection to storage for the week ended May 2 – below the market estimate of a 97 BCF injection. Total working gas in storage was reported as 2,145 BCF; 16.1% below this time last year and 1.4% above the five-year average.
As of 7:35AM this morning in Globex, WTI Crude was up $1.110; Natural Gas was up $0.041; Heating Oil was up $0.031; and Gasoline was up $0.026.
