Energy Use Breakdown

Hotels and resorts operate 24/7, creating a continuous energy demand across guest rooms, public areas, dining facilities, and amenities.

Primary Energy Sources
Energy use is split between electricity and fuel, with electricity supporting lighting and equipment, and fuel commonly used for space and water heating.

Where Energy Is Used Most

  • HVAC: ~40–50% of total energy use

  • Lighting: ~20–25%

  • Hot water systems: 15% or more (guest rooms, kitchens, laundry)

  • Kitchens, refrigeration, and laundry: significant additional loads

(Sources: Zentility, ResearchGate)

Why It Matters
Energy typically represents 6–8% of total operating expenses, with many properties spending about $2,196 per room annually (Source: Energy Bot). Pricing strategy and visibility can meaningfully impact margins, especially across larger portfolios.

Flexible Invoicing Formats

Sprague offers multiple billing & invoice detail options to support different accounting, operations, and reporting needs:

  • Summarized Invoice
High-level billing overview for streamlined accounting

  • Summary with Account-Level Detail
Combines a summarized view with individual account breakdowns

  • Summary with Daily Detail Backup
Includes a daily usage detail file to support auditing, reconciliation, or internal analysis

These options allow customers to choose the level of detail that best fits their internal processes — without unnecessary complexity.

Customer Success

In the fast-paced world of hospitality, consistency and trust mean everything. The Viscariello Hospitality Group found both when they partnered with Sprague.

“It’s such a comfort having a partner I can turn to and say, ‘This just happened, what do I do, and how do I fix it?’ … When it comes to any issue, I don’t have to stress.” – Brenda Kelly, CFO

With eight restaurant locations under their roof, the Viscariello team needed an energy provider who would deliver clarity, support and proactive service—not just a contract. Sprague’s transparent approach, real-time rate & usage tracking, and personal touch helped them shift from reactive to confident. They now enjoy greater budget predictability, less time spent on energy-worries, and more capacity to invest in employees, guest experience and growth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy my natural gas and electricity from Sprague, rather than from my utility company?

Yes. Sprague supplies natural gas and works with licensed electricity suppliers to arrange your electricity supply. Your utility will continue to deliver the natural gas and/or electricity to your business.

You’ll typically receive two bills: one from the utility for their distribution service and one from your energy supplier for the supply of natural gas or electricity. Pricing options may include fixed, variable, or hybrid plans depending on your needs.

How do I get started?

Use our form to quickly request a natural gas quote or electricity quote—or call 1.855.466.2842. We’ll review your usage and current utility rates and walk you through pricing options that align with your business goals.

If you have questions about your utility’s choice program, you can also contact your utility directly using the number on your bill.

What natural gas and/or electricity services does Sprague provide?

As a natural gas customer, Sprague supplies your fuel, while your utility continues to deliver it to your business.

For electricity, Sprague works with licensed suppliers to arrange your electricity supply, and your utility continues to handle delivery.

Sprague sources energy from multiple regions across the United States and offers customized energy management programs tailored to your business needs and risk tolerance.

For emergencies or service interruptions, you should always contact your utility directly.

Will I save money buying gas and/or electricity from Sprague?

Savings depend on the utility's approved rate (which changes), your contract structure, and when you purchase your gas and/or electricity supply.

With Sprague, you have options—such as fixed, variable, or hybrid pricing plans—so you can choose an approach that aligns with your goals and risk tolerance.

Will my utility service change if I work with Sprague?

No. Your utility will continue to deliver your natural gas and/or electricity and maintain the same level of service.

The only change is who supplies your energy.
